Second Place - In The Shadow Of The Black Sun - by Phydoux

Using a technique developed by Ansel Adams I managed to get this shot the way I wanted it through some processing techniques. In 1939 Ansel Adams used a technique called Overexposure Solarization to get his infamous shot called "The Black Sun".

The photo is aptly named after an article I read in the most recent November/December 2012 issue of American Photo about this very technique.

Very cool! I too was intrigued by the article. Think that might've been my last issue.
Very well done shot. Looks great.

A very strong contender with your excellent processing. You best have some thoughts about what the next challenge might be. Paul

It's there under Pending now. I had uploaded a version I uploaded to Flickr earlier but it looked really bad here. I just updated it with a better photo but that's the one I had here earlier.

Please Do! place it in Pending. Thanks, Traveller

Thanks. It's so fun to start with something that looks so different and get it to look like this. I can say I probably had a smile from ear to ear when I saved this one. I don't know if you saw my earlier entry before I replaced it with this one. This one is FAR superior to the previous one. Maybe I'll post that in the Pending section.

Count me as a fan also....interesting work, maybe the most important variable. Best Wishes, Traveller

It grows on me. I like it the more I look at it and think about it.
