3rd place *** Door with window by Najinsky

Prasat, Surin, Thailand

Edit: Moved to exhibition as I processed another image I prefer for the challenge.

Another attempt at mobile raw processing.

This is the door to one of the houses in the village I'm staying in, in Prasat, Surin. It conveniently includes a cut out window too!

Shot raw with a Sony NEX-5N with 18-55 mm kit lens.
Loaded to iPad with camera connector kit.
Processes in piRAWnha
Edited in snapseed
Resized to 50% in PhotoGene
Uploaded to pBase with pBase uploaded App
Deleted original in pBase via browser to reduce size

I originally resized to 800 in PhotoGene but it produced dreadful artefacts so I went with 50% to reduced upload size and the used pBase Delete original option to leave only the large file. It still seems to have smeared the details a little, but a lot better than the first attempt in PhotoGene. I'll try a few other Apps later to see if I can get a small enough file without smeared details.

Thanks Stan and K. K, it's strange but I liked my dog image the best but I seem to be alone on that!

For me, this one is perhaps a bit cliché. Dogs are a real problem in Thailand since they stopped eating them and sometimes when a large pack gathers it can be intimidating and dangerous. They use them for protection. As their economy gradually improves and they get nice TV sets and Karaoke machines and DVD players, they feel a stronger need to protect their homes from thieves, hence a progression from cloth doors to lockable doors and windows, sometimes a gate. In a way this one represents the old, and the gate represents the new. The dog is the constant.

Naj, for me this is the best of your entries to the challenge. I would vote for it in Eligible.

Great Picture, love the colors, tech jargon more than I understand but it works as we see. ~StanP

Thanks for the feedback Traveller. Sharpening and sizing are the two pita at the moment. What I'd like to do is get a well sharpened 800pix image with good jpeg compression on the iPad, for a reasonable upload size that doesn't then need to be reprocessed in pBase. It's eluding me so far but I'll get there!

I got her two days ago from Siem Reap, had to get back to Thailand for Songkran (Thai New Year) so I only managed to squeeze 16 hours in Siem Reap, but it was a productive 16 hours and got to do the mini tour of Angkor Wat, The Bayone, and the hill, and then even managed to squeeze in a show. I'll definitely head back there later in the year.

Actually, I am amazed that you can do this on the fly as you have. Very nice, very on topic....colors seem true to me...could use a little more sharpening maybe.

Well, seen and well processed for...our viewing pleasure.

(are you on your way to or from Siem Reap?)

Thanks, Traveller
