well, this is a jewel of an entry, michael! i love the color and clarity of your father's old watch and how wonderful that you took it apart to show the world how beautiful it is inside! shu

Thanks Traveller. Yes, as beautiful and intricate as this is, a cheap plastic digital serves the purpose better. Regards, Michael

You know, it may be unhappy to say, but...But, the quartz watches are infinitely better than the mechanical ones. I just can't ever keep these kind of watches ever working.

This is a terrific picture of the old style watch....I note the lovely purple and the "+ and -" adjustment is all the way over to the left.

Thanks Nico and Kelly. This is a wrist watch that belonged to my father (who died over 40 years ago when I was a child). I used it for years, but it got to a point where it runs, but only for brief periods, so I now have a digital watch.
I removed the back today by attaching a small glass bottle with epoxy glue to use as a handle. It worked and I was then able to break the bottle off the back and peel the glue off, so there was no damage done.
The bronze wheel in the foreground oscillates back and forth and my plan was to capture some motion blur by combining ambient light and flash. That didn't work though.
I couldn't find a shutter speed that gave visible blurring. Regards, Michael

Way to go Michael! What a lovely image. Where did you go to find such a great subject?
