Vatnsðalur, a valley in the north west of Iceland.
The conical hillocks, of which there were a great number here, are the remains of ground moraine.
In the distance is Vatnsdalsfjall, a steep ridge, which collapsed in 1720, in Iceland's largest known landslip,
dammed the river below and created a new lake, behind the hillocks.
