Beaulieu Abbey

Beaulieu Abbey was founded by Cistercian monks in 1204 on land given to them by King John.
The original Latin name of the monastery was Bellus Locus Regis, meaning "The beautiful place of the king".
Most of the abbey was destroyed in 1536 during Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries.
