Burg Katz, built by Count Wilhelm II of Katzenelnbogen in the 14th century. The castle was used as a bastion and military base to protect the nearby Rheinfels Castle.
Together, they formed a fortified bulwark with a barrier for levying the Rhine toll. The castle was bombarded in 1806 by Napoleon and rebuilt in the late 19th century.
It is now privately owned.
