A Really Really Big Sheow
(08.19.05)

Just a quick shot but gives you a sense of what I'm up to this evening and probably for the next several weekends. This is unknown waters for me. A local coffee shop would like for me to hang a wall of images during the month of December and I was asked to sell photos at Busch Gardens for a few weekends in September. How do you prepare stock for a Busch gig? I'm actually a little anxious about selling stuff... the hard part is when asked how much does it cost. Ah? I did manage to mumble it out and sold three music images this week! ;)

P.S. To those who asked... Yes, I meant "A Really Big Sheow"... You do remember Ed Sullivan. I believe that's how he would have said it. <|:o).

Great stuff Autumn!!! For the most part, I only view my images on my monitor, but the other day I printed some out, and realize that the viewing experience is soo much better when you can hold a photo, and seeing how awesoem your images are online, I have no doubt that you will be quite successful come sept!

Based on my experiences on San Francisco's Union Street in the 70's the tourists will be looking for 8 x 10 matted photo's, and probably of Williamsburg. Good luck.

About the Mat Cutter... This is the Art Mate C-52, made by 3M. The cutter must be at least 25 years old. 3M sold that division long ago. I picked it up at a Yard Sale cheap and in perfect condition. This cutter "Rocks". Several of my images do not format to standard sizes and I really don't want to crop. This does the trick. Now if I could just get better at the math part. :)

Thanks for such encouraging words friends. -- LC

Congratulations! On another list I am on they had information about selling prints at art fairs. Here is one post that had lots of info.

Don't forget to collect sales tax. You get a sales tax reporting number from the state.

Been selling at outdoor shows for years, off and on. I have 5 x 7 prints matted in 8x 10 pre-cut mats and 8x10 prints in 11x14 pre-cut mats. I always use mats in standard frame sizes. Trying to keep the convenience level up. I ALWAYS have note cards with all my contact info printed on the back and usually package them 2 to a pack with a discount for buying multiples. I use clear-bags to package everything. They are really
cheap and the protection is well worth it. I would package unmatted prints
with foamcore backing - matboard alone will bend if it's humid. On the rack we hang framed 16x20's and one or two larger and a few smaller.

I use drapery hooks as hangers. The unframed prints are either in
professional flip racks or in rectangular baskets. I try to use collapsible stuff as
much as possible to keep the transported stuff to a minimum.
We have a regular show rack but have used latice panels or folding doors
with slats for hanging pictures sometimes. We usually have something to attract
attention like the "show special" (sounds tacky, but works). And bags for the
customer. Credit card sales, if you can do that. Some show promoters will
take credit card sales for you.

If you are in a rain prone area bring large yardbags to pack in a hurry.

Also, we never ship with glass. We replace glass with acrylic or give a
discount to just remove it. It arrives broken too often.

Hope this has some helpful ideas for you.

Beautiful collection you've got ready so far! Congrats on both the coffee shop showing, and the Busch Gardens gig!! And looks as though you've done some very impressive custom framing. Great shot here, very well composed and great lighting.

Congratulations -- not only on a nicely composed shot, but especially on the recognition! Would love to find out how everything goes.
Guest 20-Aug-2005 02:37
Congratulations.
Nothing says recognition like a little actual money!
Allen Chester20-Aug-2005 02:00
Congratulations, you deserve it! I'm with John, put together a gallery of your framed work. Please let us know how it turns out.
Guest 20-Aug-2005 01:48
You have many great images. Good luck on your endeavor. Why not put together a gallery here at pbase of the images you have chosen to frame. Looks like it would be a way to collect all of your best into one place.
Mindy McNaugher20-Aug-2005 01:48
