Total (umbral) lunar eclipse over Michigan
The eclipsed moon takes on a distinct red-orange glow because
of the sunlight's refraction and Rayleigh scattering through
the Earth's atmosphere on its way to the eclipsed moon.

Bottom: Lunar eclipse photo taken at 5:56 a.m. EDT
The eclipsed moon is about 15 stops
(32,000x) dimmer than the full moon.
