This image of San Miniato al Monte was shot from a windowed loggia connecting two wings in the center of the Uffizi.
San Minato was begun in 1018 on the site of a 4th century church on a hillside across the Arno from the historic center of Florence.
The church is a fine example of Italian Romanesque architecture, with arcades decorating the lower part of the facade which are a classic features of the style.
The church is within easy wallking distance of the historic center of Florence, but uphill all the way.
The last part of the climb must be accessed by a steep set of steps, but is worth the effort for the glory of the interior.
The church can be accessed by taxi or city bus as well, but the climb is fun and good for the soul as well !
The climb does demand some exertion and good knees, but well worth the effort !
