Chartier's on Rue du faubourg Montmartre is a great fun place to eat, especially in the evening.
The restaurant was originally an old "soup kitchen" (Boullion Chartier), in the early 1900's and declared a historic site in the 1980's.
It has long been a favorite Parisian restaurant for the working class, and a favorite lunch place.
Now both Parisians and tourists love the atmosphere with old paneling, mirrors and hanging chandeliers.
Food is inexpensive, excellent and generous in portions.
Definitely a not-to-miss dining adventure, but if one doesn't arrive by 7 p.m., there will be a long line outside !
