This is one of the most famous of the frescoes from the Palace at Knossos. It depicts a ritual associated with
the Palace culture, "Bull Dancing", where the participants grab the horns of the bull and vault over the bull's back
and are caught by another person behind the bull. The palace has a huge open area much like a piazza that is
thought possibly to be where these sports took place.
The bull is associated with the Palace culture, and it is thought that the myth of the Minotaur derives from the
labyrinthine structures at Knossos.
