The Agora was was one of the most important parts of the ancient city of Athens. People gathered there to shop, and to assemble for business, politics.
The Agora of Athens, is where ancient Greek democracy first emerged, and it is a great place to get a feel for the way people came together in the ancient city.
Today it houses a small museum set in several rooms, and includes material from excavations of the site,
including ostraca that were used in voting... the term "ostaca" being the origin of our word "ostracize".
