If it is just a tiny opening, maybe a dab of Vaseline would keep their paws off your floors?
Are paws the correct term? So many things I don't know :))).. I use Vaseline on the metal poles that hold up my bird feeders.. there is plenty of spilled food for the squirrels.. If they can climb the poles their cute and very acrobatic selves hang off of the side, eating and dumping the rest out of the feeders. As a special bonus, it is quite amusing to watch them try to climb the poles :)). Please note that I mentioned there is lots of food for them on the ground (don't want to sound like some sadistic old lady ..grin)

Love, Laughter and yummy treat to your halls xxx

See and I wonder what this giant alien landscape must seem to the ants and bugs.

In our basement bathroom we have the teeniest tiniest ants that crawl in at one spot under the baseboard - I've tried using terro on them and it doesn't seem to have an effect, in fact, I just found out today that if they are a certain kind of ants, terro won't. Anyhow, Stinker loves to catch them and flush them down the toilet... :)
