Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) series 3 images

The Turkey Vulture, when threatened, has two primary defense mechanism. It will either fly away or send a projectile of vomit to ones face, which smells absolutely rancid. I was told you would rather get sprayed by a skunk versus this discharge. Therefore, never get to close to this bird.

Great series, Carl, I've never seen a vulture so close up. I wouldn't want to know what he's eating. V.

Very nice series Carl. It looks a little like an unfortunate wood stock. v

Nature's garbagemen at work! They are efficient at cleaning up roadkill. You got some amazing shots. They usually fly off whenever I approach! V
