Hong Kong island lies across Victoria Harbor from Kowloon. Hong Kong was the hub for business, banking and government while Kowloon held the airport, hotels, tailors, jewelers, i.e., the tourist side. Unlike today, with it's large relocated airport, bridge and tunnels, the only access to the island was by water, which kept several ferry lines in business. The Star Ferry, with it's green and white boats, was the largest. Seen here in 1965, Hong Kong was still a British colony.
