THE MUSHROOM
You say the wind moves in like water
and goes out across a sea of branches,
is leaning in to whisper,
and no one detects that you are near,
because you are (and have always been)
so good at making yourself small and quiet.
To stay here, hidden –
would that be too much to ask for?
Sky, is all –
the downward pull,
the simple force
of evergreen and darkness;
rain, so you could hide the whole deep
deep inside the words,
"Let fall."
