A favourite habitat of the Australian Red Gum is in or next to River beds.
This one is in a dry creek bed and has some of its roots exposed. (photo coming)
Trees such as this one suck up huge amounts of water when the creek floods and store the water for times of drought ahead.
They also shed some of their large branches during heat waves or after fire to conserve water,
