A Red Packet (Red Envelope) is simply a red envelope with money in it,
often decorated with lucky symbols, which symbolizes luck and wealth. It is called Hong Bao in Chinese.

I love this time of year! It's Chinese New Year on the 18th and I need to remember to go and buy some of these for my kids. In my family, we're celebrating with a big family dinner tomorrow and the passing of these envelopes. It's not just for single people. You can give these filled with cash to whomever you want to wish them a prosperous New Year.
