Well, it was the 5th of May, and I was in Mexico.
Although I was traveling solo, I made some fast friends that evening during a tequila tasting at the hotel bar. However, the good stuff really came later after the tequila tasting. French champagne AND caviar. I love caviar, and that was good caviar.
Well, too much sun during the day, followed by too much tequila and then too much champagne before dinner left me with a very memorable Cinco de Mayo that year.
After the special event tequila tasting had ended, no one thought much more about the "holiday". But we still had fun. Cinco de Mayo seems to be a more important event in the USA than it is in Mexico. I got my answer. So, I was technically still "on the job" that evening. LOL.
That aside, the champagne and caviar were soooo good. It made for a very high bar tab on the expense account, but certainly was worth it. The champagne flowed and the caviar seemed bottomless. Not exactly what one thinks as being Cinco de Mayo fare. But it sure hit the spot. We probably shouldn't have done the tequila tasting first. However, you only live once. None of us knew about the caviar until the bartender suggested it to the few of us who stayed to talk after the tequila tasting.
I don't remember who really took this photo. They used my camera (since I was the only one carrying a camera to the bar). I just remember that the "photographer" was part of our little spontaneous group who stayed to enjoy caviar happy hour Happy Hour. In addition to caviar and champagne, we ordered large cold shrimps, smoked salmon, blinis, and oysters on the half shell to accompany the caviar & crackers, chopped egg, onion, and capers. I remember that evening well. The caviar was my favorite. Needless to say, I skipped dinner. Tipsy and full of caviar, etc. I bid adieu to my newly found friends and went to bed early.
We all got together again for the next several evenings for Caviar Happy Hour, but that first night was the only time we overindulged.
