My friend and I were working our way west along the south Rim, looking for good shots as the snow showers were moving in and out of the area. As I remarked on a previous image, everytime a shower passed to the north and over the Canyon, a rainbow would appear if the sun angle was right. This image was a result of this fortuitous combination.
We were shooting on Grandview Point, and had spend about 30 minutes working a location down the trail a couple hundred yards. The snow came in hard, but passed just as quickly…and soon the sun was out again. Looking out into the Canyon the makings of another rainbow were apparent. I moved to another location below Grandview point, which gave a better perspective over the canyon. For nearly 15 minutes I watched multiple rainbows form and re-form as the remnants of the snow shower dissipated over the Canyon. I was there with another photographer from the UK who was as dumbfounded by the beauty as myself…it certainly was stunning. This image does nothing to convey the emotion and beauty of the moment.
