As the afternoon waned I found myself on the eastern entrance road to Zion Canyon. I’ve always wanted to take the time to wander through the many canyons which run through this wild sandstone country, so I took of into one of the more favorable looking canyons looking for some nice, rich, indirect lighting. I soon came upon this scene and was immediately struck by the contrast between the rich, warm hues on the west wall of the canyon (from the reflected sunlight on the red walls on the opposite side of the canyon) and the cool, almost icy blue sandstone beneath my feet. Actually, there is snow visible in this image behind the tree to the right. This is a classic ‘feel’ shot for me – that is, an image which wonderfully represents the ‘feeling’ of the moment standing in that place at the time I was there. I’m still not quite satisfied with how the colors are represented in this image, and you might see a couple modifications to this picture uploaded as I play with it in the future.
