Villeneuve-les-Avignon, Gard (30), France

The former Carthusian monastery in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, across the Rhône from the former papal city. The Carthusian fathers were collective hermits: each spent much of the day in solitude, in a private set of rooms with a garden.
