Looking up the Monument .It was designed by Robert Hooke and Sir Christopher Wren to commemorate the great fire in 1666 but partly to use for scientific experiments.Robert Hooke was the first secretary of the Royal Society and did a lot of practical work .He has good claim to have stated the laws of motion before Newton and there was a long running feud between the two.
