For climbing and long rides. I stripped off the stupid stock racing crankset and replaced it with a 44-32-22 crank and X-gen front derailleur. Takes some trimming of the front derailleur cable tension to use the upper and lower ends of the cassette, due to the shifter/derailleur mismatch, but the gearing is MUCH better. Got fenders now, too.
