This very dim object remains a bit of a mystery. Located in the southern constellation
of Circinus, it seems to be a portion of a much larger and much dimmer
supernova remnant. The filaments of glowing hydrogen in RCW 89 are probably caused
by a jet of material being expelled from the stellar remnant (a pulsar) left from
the supernova, which at this point is colliding with a patch of interstellar gas.
