M 78 - January 2011

Here is just the luminance layer from the M78 image found
in the STL-11000 gallery.

This is the first "real" image from this new scope. The
"original" size here is completely unreduced so that those
interested can see in detail the quality of the stars at the
edges. The scope has still not been collimated since I received
it; though that is still needed, the stars do not show severe
distortions even in the corners. There seems to be some
distortion around most of the edge of the image. The worst is
in the lower left, where the CCDInspector analysis posted in this
gallery also indicates the greatest curvature.

Camera: SBIG STL-11000
Exposure: 3 hours (10 minutes x 18)

other sizes: small medium large original auto
