This graceful spiral galaxy is 50 million light years from
earth. Though it is part of the Virgo cluster of galaxies, it
is actually located within the official boundaries of the
constellation Bootes.
The galaxy's graceful (though dim) outer arms are a contrast to
the inner portion of the galaxy, where active star formation is
busily taking place, as can be seen by the prominent clumps of
blue and red nebulae there. Be sure to look at the "original" size
to see them; and while you're at it, look for the many other
distant galaxies in this image.
