SUNDAY JAN. 7th
Since yesterday no more gas, the fuel supply becomes an urgent matter. A thaw sets in.
None of those V1’s are heard.
MONDAY JAN. 8th
Woke up to a thick layer of snow. It kept snowing most of the day. Temperature, just above freezing point.
With permission of “freule”, honourable lady Brandsen, I inspected a tree for fuel. It was still snowing and decided not to start chopping as yet, the weather was too awful. Perhaps tomorrow.
TUESDAY JAN 30th
It has started to thaw. The Yssel is still full of ice, but we’re unable to cross since Saturday, the river shall soon be navigable again.
WEDNESDAY JAN. 31st Many V1’s roaring over head.
TUESDAY FEB. 6th
Walked to Didam with a little cart, departed at 9.00am. Quite a bit of activity in the sky, fighters and bombers. Arrived in Didam at 1.00pm. Stayed overnight.
WEDNESDAY FEB. 7th Arrived home, half past two, with 100 kg. potatoes.
THURSDAY FEB. 15th
The original plan to make a trip to Didam delayed, because of high water. At two places, one can cross the river with a rowing boat, but the interest quickly waned with the prospect of being for several hours on the water. Will observe the situation again, tomorrow.
TUESDAY FEB. 20th
This morning, I was on the road again from 8.30, to get to the other side. The first stage went all right, reached the Yssel roughly at 10.30, but saw there were many contenders in front of me. Arrived back home without success, dismally wet and rather numbed with cold. All men between 16 and 60 years of age have to report themselves to the authorities.
