GETTYSBURG, THE BATTLEFIELD

A panoramic view of the Gettysburg Battlefield.

After two hours of artillery bombardment of the Union line on Cemetary Ridge (where the camera is), on the afternoon of July 3rd, 12,000 Confederate soldiers marched from the distant Seminary ridge towards Cemetary Ridge . Four thousand made it to the Union line , and the battle included hand-to-hand fighting at the copse on the left, and the "Bloody Angle" on the right before Confederate withdrawal. It is viewed as the high water mark of the Confederacy.
