Glen Echo Park

Glen Echo, MD

Many of us knew it as "Glen Echo Amusement Park" and I spent a lot of happy times here as a kid in the 50's. No longer serving as an amusement park and Chautauqua site that dated back to the late 1800's, today it's a thriving arts community for adults and children.
The roller coaster was torn down in the late 60's. The bumper cars are gone but the pavilion is still here. The famous Crystal Pool has only the facade left. It once had 3 different pools that welcomed 3000 swimmers. The Spanish Ballroom is still here and making dancers happy.
This photo shows the entrance with a soon-to-restored trolley in front. The trolley ride from Washington, D.C. was a very popular way to get to the park.

It was really a treat to see the park again after all these years and to realize Glen Echo is a site on the C & O Canal.
