i have visited alot of great websites. and have read quite of bit. i spend alot of time around tombstone, arivaca, and everywhere in between. the amount of ruins in arivaca are quite amazing, i find the best way to learn or find ghost towns is to just load up the jeep and go. well i like the photos on your page, and will keep my eyes out for anymore you add. happy hunting

Have you visited the Ghost Towns website or checked out the numerous books written? I just picked up a new one at Costco recently. They'd both be a great source of info for you. Maybe someone else will pitch in here but the forums would be more active. Good luck! Peg

not sure if people still read these but here goes. my name is chris i have been doing alot of research on sw az history. i have been to many of the old towns, mines etc, and have also found many that people dont know, wondering if there is anyone who would know of any spots that are a little less visited.

Hi Peg, I had no idea of all the wonderful pictures you have taken. You have a very artistic eye for the beauty and interest of the areas that you have shot. Everything I have looked at is truley wonderful. I especially love the flowers and landscapes as I paint in water color and have painted many of the wild and domestic flowers that I have grown in my yard back in WI. Thank you for all the beauty and including Wasatch Aggie in you gallery of wonderful pet photos. Penny K

Hi K, A motorcycle trip to explore Arizona sounds awesome. There are several excellent reference books on locating these places. A favorite book is "Ghost Towns of Arizona" by James and Barbara Sherman. Two other books I always keep in my car are the "Travel Arizona" books called "The Back Roads" and "The Scenic Byways." Excellent guides to side trips to take in the state. If you could make your trip in the spring, you could have the extra treat of seeing the Sonoran Desert in bloom, though with our drought the wildflowers won't be making much of an appearance this year. I LOVE this site, and also hope you will add to it. I live in Kentucky, but the old gost towns of the west are calling me! I have a LONGING to move to Arizona. One day, maybe it will be. So let me be the first to comment. I am also a big fan of ghost towns/mining camps. In fact I came to live in Tucson after watching the credits for the film "Hombre." It was partially shot in the ghost town of Helvetia, which is located south of Tucson. I look forward to your additional images. Again I would strongly recommend shooting the structures in the late afternoon, although I realize that this is not always practical. I have been photographing ghost towns from Arizona to the Yukon for several decades. I have been to most of those you have in your gallery.
