Lance Holdt Lopper Award

Lance received the “Lopper Award” for his outstanding dedication to perpetuation of the BCHW mission statement – “To educate, encourage and solicit active participation in the wise use of the back country resource by horsemen and the general public commensurate with our heritage.” The coveted recognition is presented to BCHW members that volunteer to maintain trails on public lands.

Trail Boss Lance organizes the chapter’s coordinated efforts to clear and maintain trails in both the front country and back country. He devoted over 500 trail maintenance volunteer hours for improvements of trail systems for recreational horse riders and hikers. In cooperation with Washington Trails Association and Pacific Crest Trail Association, assistance was made available to support their remote area trail projects. Pack stock is required for trail advocacy organizations to access week-long trail work party sites in the back country and provide support for the work crews. Food, camping gear, and trail tools must be hauled in by trail stock for the volunteer workforces; then packed out of the wilderness after completion of the project. Holdt’s trail stock was also involved in hauling trail trash out of the backwoods after completing packing duties.

Lance is not only involved in chapter trail work projects but also organizes Junior BCHW activities for the chapter and instrumental in signing up several new members. Congratulations Lance for recognition of your devotion to our organization.
