The small (and longest) flexible cable goes down
the side of the back lens element. A black plastic
guide holds the cable in tension and in a "S" formation.
At the 17mm end the flexible cable is in a very tight bend and
repeated usage causes it to crack - a design fault.
The design fault might be in the black hard plastic covering!
