Rhododendron alabamense is found in the wild in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida, usually in dry upland woods and hillsides from 0' to 1700', in USDA zones 6b-9a. It was named in 1883, is fragrant, and normally blooms white with a yellow blotch, before or as the leaves expand, in mid-May.The plant habit is low, from 2' to 6'.
