Janet's new college experience while seeking a degree in Art at the tender age of 46. This is a picture looking through the Center of the campus on an unusual day in January with no snow. A huge Norway Maple is in the center of the picture.
A private, liberal arts college founded in 1836, Emory & Henry is the oldest institution of higher education in Southwest Virginia. For more than 160 years it has had the same name and affiliation with The United Methodist Church. The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation four times have recognized E&H professors as state and national professors of the year. Emory & Henry has been represented by the recipients of these awards more than any other college or university in Virginia.
The name of the College is derived from two influential men: Bishop John Emory, an eminent church leader of the era, and Patrick Henry, a renowned patriot of the American Revolution and Virginia’s first governor. The character of these men guide us today as we prepare for the future.
