In High Places

near Sugar Grove, Virginia

Cattle on top of the world in SW Virginia. A sight that one day you may not see anymore as Christmas tree farms take over more and more of grazing land and cattle prices make it more and more difficult for the small farmer.

As a Virginia boy, myself, I appreciate your use of the photographic image to communicate messages about what corporate factory-farming is doing to the beauty of farmland. You might add that it is we who directly cause it! Alas, it is we who shop for the best price on our supermarket hamburger & porkchops & eggs - rather than making our buying choices on the environmental integrity and health of what we eat & cause to be produced on our behalf. (One program to help preserve the small farm and reduce trucking of food over long distances, et al is to buy organic, buy local and to learn: . Support CSA in your area "Community-supported agriculture", too! See and choose your Zip Code or state to see the way to keep family farming local.

NB: I am not involved in the food biz; I'm just an architect who designs sustainable buildings & developments.
