Incarvillea is one of the few herbaceous plants in the family Bignoniaceae, which mostly comprises tropical or sub-tropical trees, shrubs and woody vines with decorative bell-shaped flowers. The species is named after the French Jesuit priest Pierre d'Incarville, who is better known for the introduction of callistephus - the china aster- to Europe.
