Gorno-Badakhshan is situated in the Eastern part of Tajikistan. It borders Afghanistan in the South and West, China in the East and Kyrgyzstan in the North.
A special permit is required to visit the Gorno-Badakhshan.Travelling east from Dushanbe along the M41, the first place where the GBAO permit is checked is the army checkpoint just before Qala-e Khumb.

Un permis spécial est obligatoire pour visiter le Gorno-Badakhshan. Venant de Douchanbé, à l'Est par la M41, la première vérification du permis GBAO se fait au point de contrôle militaire à l'entrée de Qala-e Khumb .
