CAP162.1 Color Media Sum11

Color
Color is a vital component to the world we live in. With its use, one can sway thinking, generate actions and cause reactions. It can induce emotional responses and even suppress your appetite. As a tool for visual communication, color is irreplaceable. Red means stop, green means go, and you can even have a case of the blues. Color is unparalleled in its diversity of uses for information, symbols, cultural values, etc. It is to be used with craft and thought; as a designer it is essential to understand and engage this complex tool.
Goals and Objectives
1. Generate a basic understanding of the relationships between colors.
2. To build skill in techniques for rendering and other visual graphics.
3. Begin to implement and understand how color can effect design.
Exercise
From the handout that you have been provided, you will be developing three rendered compositions (8.5x11 each) on vellum exploring the relationships of colors and the tools used for their generation (color pencils, markers, etc.). Students will be expected to develop images that utilize color sets and systems (complementary, analogous, split complementary, etc.) in order to create renderings that demonstrate an understanding of the color wheel and its imbedded relationships. You are not creating a rendering using literal translations of material colors but instead generating a visual argument for highlighted features in the renderings.
