Tom - I recently got the full story about our "family" connection with the Peak Cafe. Apparently one of my Mum's sisters was a shareholder in the Peak Cafe, after the War. Not sure of exact dates and for how long, but we had dinner there on our trip to HK in March 2012. I haven't been there since I was a kid so must be at least 40+ years. It's lovely inside - very colonial with lots of old photos of HK everywhere. I'm glad it is still intact - a piece of HK history to keep. Lisa

I remember the bottle cap prizes well,
i used to go into the 2 shops in Kennedy Road and empty the bottle cap trays from the drinks coolers

I also had one of those blow up Lap Sap Chung dragons for the litter campaign

Speaking of Watson's lemon; does anyone else remember the promotional campaign (late 60s, early 70s) where Watsons put "Smilie" faces on the underside of the bottle caps. I can't remmeber the full details, I think you had to take the cap off with a bottle opener and then peal off what was then a cork disc seal on the underside of the cap to reveal a smilie face. Can't rember what the prize was if you found one.

I remember till this day that in the very late 60's, my uncle who worked in the airport took me, my brother, my mum and my cousins to the Peak in his car. All along the drive, my cousin kept asking my uncle was there Rome across the harbour (actually there was just the Kowloon Pen.) and could he drive if he was in Rome. Then, he kept driving up to the Mt. Austin and stop in front of the flat top pavillion, a same construction which was disappeared long ago could be found in the long destructed Chatham Rd. playground. So, let's get back to the Peak, then we went to the Peak Cafe and took a table under the roof area, when I looked at the wall which was very close to the ceiling, there was many antique Chinese paintings hung upthere. My cousines kept luring me to order a banana split (actually they were the kids who wanted that) and my brother was too little that hardly to order anything. Finally, we kids shared the same deli. What's a fond memory, to this day, I still have this obsession with banana split!

Thanks for bringing back so many great memories - walking past the Peak Cafe on the way back from school, hanging out for a drink before tackling Mt Austen Road. I was very choked up looking through all these photos, brought back many memories, smells, sounds.
