I worked at the Carriage Club Beauty Salon from 1961 until 1962. Art Bruns did not own the Miami Springs Villas. A Canadian named Percy Gardiner owned it and his son, George Gardiner inherited it. I met many celebrities there and went out with quite a few, including Mickey Mantle, Lorne Greene, and George Gardiner. The Doorman at the Carriage Club was Mike Coker, we called him Coke, and the head bartender was Al Day. It was a fun time and I went on to work at the new Doral Country Club in the beauty salon there, but the Barber talked me into doing men's manicures for the first Major Golf Tournament in 1962. I manicured all of the famous golfers, including Arnold Palmer, Tony Lema, and the most leathered hands of all Ben Hogan. The owner of the Doral was Alfred Kaskell, and he had a painting done of his family and told me to sit for a portrait the next day. He hung my portrait in the barber shop and when I left to open my own place, he gave me the portrait and I still have it. I had wonderful memories of the Villas and Miami Springs. No, I live in Sanibel Island, which is paradise!! Great Web site you have!
