My heart sang so loud when seeing these Northern Lights dancing in the sky in Lapland.
The most amazing natural phenomenon I know - and it occurs in so many different formations and shapes!

One of the most interesting aurorae I've seen--love the way the curves accent the drooping tree boughs. V

What an awesome sky! The wonder of the northern lights should really humble us, as it is a marvel that had to be studied to understand the phenomenon. I looked up information and learned a lot, such as this explanation (found at wwwnorthernlightscentre.ca), "The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. The lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. They are known as 'Aurora borealis' in the north and 'Aurora australis' in the south.." Thanks for posting such a gorgeous photo! V
