Trifid Nebula closeup

Loftus, NSW

The Trifid is a lovely mixture of blue reflection and red emission nebula, trisected by a series of dark dust lanes. In a few places, you can see how columns of denser gas and dust are being evaporated by the radiation of hot young stars - these columns often produce further new stars.

23 x 5 minutes & 12 x 3 minutes, ISO800, EOS 60D, darks, flats and bias subtracted. 150mm f/5 Newtonian on HEQ5 pro mount, Orion mini autoguider. Stacked and processed in PixInsight and Photoshop. full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto
