I was intrigued by this, in early morning Van city. |
The corridor is at our Van hotel, Buyuk Urartu. |
The hallway with more light, but it was early. |
Arrival at the famous Ishak (Isak) Pasha Palace |
The courtyard leads to the harem flats. First things first, I guess! |
The palace took about 99 years to build. |
It had a mosque, a free eating area for poor people, and a public bath. |
Holes for storing food and for access to rock-cut water cisterns. Also in the palace are ceremony and entertainment halls, tombs even, and of course a recreation hall for men only :-) |
Part of the beautiful mosque there |
Open-air dining area recently restored. That's Mary Ann and Aykut, our guide for the southeast, using a rental car. |
 Standing further back. |
The minaret, seen from the open-air dining area |
An interesting corridor, but shot is blurred by hand-held 2/3 second exposure. |
Each room has a beautiful view and fireplace. |
 One of the views. |
A palace hamam, or Turkish bath. |
Typical warm looking harem room with fireplace and view. |
This was across from the palace and is said to be a tomb. The windows of these buildings, bordered by white, have shapes like image pixels, I thought :-) |
