A GRIZZLY BEAR REFUGE 1018
WINNER : VANCOUVER CAPILANO & GROUSE MOUNTAIN/WESTERN CANADA/TRAVEL GALLERY
This handsome fella is one of two grizzlies at the Grouse Mountain Refuge. They are both 6 years old and were orphaned cubs when the refuge rescued them...they would not have survived on their own. The original intention was to return them to the wild, but they became too 'humanised' so will spend their lives happily at this refuge.

ST NICHOLAS CHURCH & BELFRY
Taken at the beginning of the slope of St Michael's Bridge.
Right in the centre of Ghent, this large bridge is the spot to see all around it a plethora of historic buildings. It is named after medieval church on the other side of bridge.....not in this image. From the bridge is the view of the famous 'panorama of the three towers'....St Nicholas Church, the Belfry, and St Bavo's Cathedral (unfortunately here covered in scaffolding and plastic sheets.

THE DRESDNER MOUNTAIN HUT
The Dresdner Hut is located at nearly 8,000 feet altitude, beneath the Stubai Glacier high above the end of the Stubai Valley. It is surrounded by numerous mountain peaks over 10,000 feet high, and is very close to the mid station of the Glacier cable cars which have operated since 1973.
The first small mountain refuge was built here in 1875 by the German and Austrian Alpine Club. The much larger hut replaced it in 1887 and it has been enlarged several more times since then. The hut has been run by the same family for over 100 years.
