The gardens were laid out in 1795, and contain a memorial on the site of Tower Hill scaffold where hundreds of public executions took place from the late 14th century until the last in 1747.
The grand Grade II listed building was constructed between 1915 - 1922 and housed The Port of London Authority for many years. In 2012 it featured as the location of MI6 in the Bond film Skyfall. Now recently extensively refurbished the building is being converted into luxury apartments and a hotel.
In the background are two of London's new skyscrapers, the Gherkin and the Cheesegrater.
