WINNER : TRAVEL/BELGIUM/GHENT 2014 GALLERY
The long Great Butchers' Hall, in Ghent's Groentenmarkt Square, dates back to the 15th century, when meat halls were indoor market places. The building was constructed between 1406 and 1410 and inside has an impressive open wooden truss roof. The hall was extensively restored in 1912 and is now a restaurant and shop for the promotion of local Flemish food.
