Victor Nekrasov (1911-1987) fought in the battle of Stalingrad that signed the turn of the fortunes in WWII and was decorated for his bravery. He described his frontline experiences in his first book "In the Trenches of Stalingrad", which was read and liked by Stalin himself. 36 years old author got Stalin Prize for this book and could contemplate the life of priviledge as recognized Soviet writer - if he would follow the Party line. He did exactly the opposite, gradually becoming more and more critical of the system and supporting dissidents. As the result, his writings were banned and he ended up in Paris.
