On top of the shell of the hotel was an empty concrete room, on the roof. It had some rags in it. The boys said "this is the rape room". I asked what they meant. "We bring girls here and rape them".

I didn't, and don't, believe them. But it's troubling that they felt this was an acceptable (albeit hopefully empty) boast. Attitudes towards women in India have come under severe scrutiny recently, often deservedly so.
