Well, for those of you that may follow this blog, you know that our baby turtle, Leo, was lost about two months ago. I was, I do believe, more sad about it than the boys were. Well on Fourth of July, I had family visiting, from out of town. Early that morning the twins were outside playing, and came inside with a bucket proclaiming they found a turtle. Well I expected to see a box turtle that sometimes shows up on our lawn, but lo and behold, IT WAS LEO!!! I have NO IDEA how he managed to survive in the backyard. I mean, we searched for him for several days later, and I eventually chalked it up to a hawk taking him. We have a sprinkler system that comes on twice a day, but that's no where near enough water to keep a turtle healthy.
So I took him, placed him in the aquarium and made sure the water was clean and fresh for him. It appeared as tho Tuck, the older turtle, forgot about him, but warmed up to him later on. Leo stayed immersed in the water for nearly two days! He was very dried out, his skin didn't look so good, and his eyes (as you can see in the picture) are very bulgie. I called our vet to see if I needed to rush him in, but they said to rub triple antibiotic ointment on his eyes for a week, and if no improvement, then make an appointment. So far, at least he can open them, that is some improvement.
I wasn't going to say anything to you guys, just incase he doesn't make it. I feel pretty confident that if he could survive out there for 2 months with no water to speak of, then he is in the clear from here on in!
I am so excited to have him back!! Now to get his eyes healed.
Just wanted to share my excitement with you!
